What is a podcast?
A podcast is a multimedia file made available over the Internet for
download and playback on your computer, iPod, or any mp3 player. They
are free, and once downloaded can be played anytime without an Internet
connection. When you subscribe to a podcast, you can have episodes
downloaded for you automatically by iTunes, Juice (formerly iPodder), or
other "podcatching" software.
What is iTunes?
iTunes is a program that manages, organizes and plays audio and video
files. iTunes will "sync" your iPod, so that you can take your files
with you to be played anytime, or it can play the files right on your
computer without an iPod at all. iTunes is free to download from Apple
by clicking here.
Do I have to use iTunes to subscribe?
No, you can use any "podcatching" program. Another popular program
called Juice (formerly iPodder) can be used in the same way with an iPod,
Zune, or other portable digital media player. Juice is free to download
by clicking here.
Can I use podcasts without a special program?
Yes, you can use any website that displays "rss feeds". Websites that
can serve as a portal for rss feeds are podcast.com, my yahoo and Google
Reader. Just clicking on the link will add the podcast to these
sites.
How do I download a podcast?
* If you use iTunes, simply click on the iTunes button to subscribe to
the podcast you want. After that, iTunes will automatically update with
new episodes. You can play the episodes right on your computer, or
connect to your iPod and iTunes will automatically download the episodes
so you can take them with you to play anytime.
* If you use Juice (formerly iPodder), copy the URL for the podcast you
want. In Juice, click on Tools > Add a Feed, and paste the URL in.
* You can also play the podcast right on your computer by clicking on
